Taking the lighting design of a modern automatic logistics storage base as an example, analyzed the main points of the lighting design and intelligentization of a large space.
Modern logistics warehouse base is a key basic project for building a distribution system with centralized distribution, flat organization and specialized personnel. The construction of a modern logistics storage base can provide material storage and distribution services. As a civil building with high space and large span, lighting is an important part , which has an important significance to enhance the image of the entire logistics industry, and therefore also receives great attention.
As an important part of the tall space building, the design of the large space lighting will directly affect the effect of the whole building.
- Design principles
Lighting for tall spaces has different characteristics and functional needs from other architectural lighting.
- Lighting should be designed according to different heights and functions to provide a good visual environment for the staff, requiring the designer to choose reasonable lighting, appropriate lighting, accurate control of the indicators, including illumination, glare, color rendering and other parameters.
- Lighting in addition to meeting the functional requirements of the building, but also the need for a perfect combination with the built environment and the full application of various lighting means to show the building interior space image, highlighting the characteristics of the built environment.
- Project overview
The modern logistics storage base includes an automated storage area with a building height of about 27 m,a flat stacking area with a building height of 17 m and a two-storey attached management control area with a building height of 8.6 m.
The construction area is about 10,279 m2 and the storage area is of steel structure type.
- Lighting standards
The lighting standards for the warehouse are shown in Table 1.
The lighting standards provide detailed indicator about glare and colour rendering in the warehouse for the level of illumination. Since the project has both general and exquisite storage, the standard value of illumination of 1.0 m level in the vertical storage area is selected as 150 lx, 200 lx in the back racking and operation area, 300 lx in the working area and 100 lx in the 1.0 m level in the warehouse aisle.
To ensure the illumination level is to have enough light and illumination in the warehouse, so as to effectively, safely and comfortably meet the lighting requirements of the visual function of the staff. Of course, for non working areas such as warehouse passageway and hall, the horizontal illumination is not required to be too high. However, the illumination level is not the only basis to measure or reflect the whole space lighting design, while other lighting quality standards, such as the visual experience of human eyes, the impact of indoor light environment, uniformity, glare control and color rendering, are all to meet the physiological and psychological requirements of people.
4. Lighting method
Tall and large space usually using direct lighting type lamps, its efficiency is higher, energy loss is less, but there are requirements for the layout and aesthetics of lamps and lanterns, generally require the appearance of lamps match the architectural style.
The majority of similar tall buildings in China or oversea, such as airports and railway station waiting halls, have adopted the direct lighting way. With direct lighting, the number of luminaries to be installed is smaller and more efficient, but they need to be installed at the top of a large space, the wiring distance is long, not convenient for installation and maintenance, and the glare is difficult to control, so the design requires fine calculation.
Indirect lighting is to use the ceiling or other decorative reflections to illuminate the entire space.
Sometimes to ensure that the ground illuminance reaches the standard, the top illuminance value will be greater to meet the ground requirements, although it has better aesthetics and comfort, but the number of lamps required and the power demand will be very large, low efficiency and large energy consumption.
Considering the density and height of the shelves in the modern logistics warehouse base, direct lighting is the best choice for this project.
5. Selection of luminaires and light sources
When the lighting method is determined, the choice of lamps and light sources is also crucial. Due to the large indoor area, in order to achieve the required illumination and meet the needs of the building effect, the number of lamps, light source power and electricity consumption will be larger.
For this large space lighting, in addition to attention to the beauty and reasonable light distribution, the choice of light source for large space lighting should also consider its energy saving to meet the comfort and functionality of the lighting environment, and also consider its energy saving.
High intensity discharge lamps (HID) are usually used as the main light source in large space lighting design, such as: metal halide lamps, high-pressure sodium lamps, high-pressure mercury lamps, etc., but their light efficiency, color rendering and life are different, so they are suitable for different places.
Below table 2 lists the main technical parameters and performance comparison of 400 W high intensity gas discharge lamps.
As direct lighting for large spaces, the high light intensity of HID lamps makes it difficult to effectively control its glare, and in recent years, with the widespread application of LED lamps, new high-brightness LED lighting fixtures have also been widely used, see Table 3.
From the comparison between Table 2 and Table 3, it can be seen that the long life span and low maintenance cost of LED high bay lights, coupled with its safety, energy saving and environmental protection advantages, make it widely used in the field of lighting.
Using intelligent lighting control system, it can make the lighting system work in automatic state, the system will switch a number of basic working states according to the pre-set time, automatically switch between various working states according to the pre-set time, saving labor costs and improving the building intelligence level.
Lighting system is one of the main factors of building energy consumption, intelligent lighting control system can set different dates, turn on at different times and pre-set the illumination level of each functional area, non-working hours, to ensure that the lighting is off, thus greatly reducing the energy consumption of the building.

In the lighting design of tall buildings, fully understand the structure of the building, choose the lighting mode and control mode reasonably, combine the lighting and lighting of the building, while satisfying the functional lighting, we must also create a first-class lighting environment and fully express the meaning of the building And effects.
In addition, the economy and energy saving of the entire lighting system must be considered. In this project, LED high ceiling luminaires were selected, and the illuminance and lighting uniformity and energy consumption detected on site were satisfactory, which perfectly demonstrated the excellent results of the logistics demonstration project.
